Today we begin a four-week series about the gifts we are given as God’s resurrection people. This morning we will look at the gift of time. We might not immediately associate time as being among God’s greatest gifts, but it is. In the immortal words of Benjamin Franklin, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of.” Indeed!

  • Most of us are quite busy and our days are filled with work, school, raising families and all the other things the day requires. Still, we all have some free time. How do you spend this time? In what ways is your use of free time reflective of your faith?

  • All our experiences are bound in time. What has been for you the most impactful of these experiences? Where did they take place? Who was with you? In what ways did you sense God’s presence?

  • Genesis 1:5—There was evening and there was morning, the first day. Among all the other wonders of nature, God created time. As we are called to be good stewards of all creation, in what ways do we show the same care for God’s creation of time?

Next Step: “Don’t waste my time!” is a particularly dismissive way to convey the idea that whatever is being proposed isn’t worth our attention. It also conveys the truth that time is a precious and unrenewable resource. What’s one thing you can do with your time that conveys what a precious gift it truly is?
