Trust (also known as faith) is the bedrock of our life as Christians. It is, itself, a gift of the Holy Spirit and is the means by which we receive all the other gifts Jesus imparts to his followers. Like every other gift we’ve surveyed in this series, it’s up to us to determine how and to what extent we use this gift in our lives of faith. Let’s take a close look at the gift of trust today!

  • How trusting are you? Are you quick to give your trust or do you take a more cautious approach? What factors do you consider when thinking about giving your trust to something or someone?

  • How do Jesus’ first disciples fare in giving Jesus their trust? Does Jesus do more scolding or more commending when it comes to their expressions of trust?

  • What evidence of Jesus’ trustworthiness is given in the Bible? Is it enough for you or do you also take account of examples of the trustworthiness of God that you experience in your own life.

Next step: Take a quick audit of your life of faith. What are some examples of God ‘coming through’ for you? In what ways have you experienced disappointment in trusting God? How might you increase in your ability to trust Godin the future?
