We continue our series on the resurrected life looking today at the talents God gives his people. Most of us feel culturally conditioned to play down what we’re good at. These talents, deployed for the cause of the gospel, are rather to be celebrated in and valued by the church. Let’s see what that looks like!
- Consider the things you’ve always had a knack for. What are they and in what ways have you exercised them in the past?
- We are assured at least one gift for the building up of the church has been entrusted to each of us as Jesus-followers. Often, this gift corresponds to something we are good at or love to do. What are those things for you? You might discover a God-given gift in the things you thought about in the previous question. What about that thing or things could you use to advance the ministry of the church?
- Oftentimes, we need to overcome our fear of self-promotion to be confident in our giftedness. What obstacles have gotten in your way of owning and offering what is special about you? What excuses have you had to overcome to serve the church joyfully?
Next Step: Using our gifts is a team effort. The individual discerns what the gift is and the church provides opportunities to put that gift to work. In what ways could the church help you to find—and flourish in—your gift?
